The Salvation Army
Back to school backpacks / Mochilas para el regreso a clases
As part of a back-to-school initiative, The Salvation Army's Puerto Rico Chapter delivered 1,000 backpacks to children from vulnerable communities. With the support of the Liberty Foundation and other companies, the organization was able to acquire the materials that the students need to return to their schools well prepared. Liberty employees participated in the delivery of the backpacks, which took place in Ponce and Loíza. Success to all students in their return to school!
Como parte de una iniciativa de regreso a clases, el Capítulo de Puerto Rico del Ejército de Salvación entregó 1,000 mochilas a niños de comunidades vulnerables. Con el apoyo de Liberty Foundation y otras entidades, la organización pudo adquirir los materiales necesarios para que los estudiantes vuelvan a sus escuelas bien preparados luego de un año de enseñanza remota por la pandemia. Empleadas de Liberty participaron en la entrega de las mochilas, que se realizaron en Ponce y en Loíza. ¡Éxito a todos los estudiantes en su regreso a clases!
Coro de Niños de San Juan
Summer concert / Concierto de verano
The San Juan Children's Choir presented its concert "Latin American Soul", dedicated to the brotherhood with the countries of Latin America, from July 23 to 25, 2021 through a "live streaming" event. The three choral groups that make up the program of the San Juan Children's Choir and the group of the Preparatory School participated in the concert, singing from children's repertoire to recognized themes from the vast Latin American catalog. Liberty Foundation has been supporting the choir for a decade. Bravo!
El Coro de Niños de San Juan presentó su concierto “Alma latinoamericana”, dedicado a la hermandad con los países de América Latina, durante los días 23 al 25 de julio de 2021 a través de un evento “live streaming”. Participaron en el concierto las tres agrupaciones corales que integran el programa del Coro de Niños de San Juan y la agrupación de la Escuela de Preparatoria, cantando desde un repertorio infantil hasta temas reconocidos del amplio catálogo latinoamericano. La Fundación Liberty apoya al CNSJ desde hace casi una década. ¡Bravo!
Jóvenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo
Youth leadership / Liderazgo juvenil
With the mission of promoting ethical and supportive leadership in young people between the ages of 12 and 16, a group of students from Juncos, Naguabo, Canóvanas and San Juan developed service projects in their schools and communities, supported by a project guide from Puerto Rico Youth at Risk, one of the organizations we have supported for three years. Some students restored a school garden, while others cleaned beaches in their communities. They also organized a book recycling project, donating them to a non-profit organization. We are so proud of these committed young people!
En aras de promover el liderazgo ético y solidario entre jóvenes de 12 a 16 años, un grupo de estudiantes de los pueblos de Juncos, Naguabo, Canóvanas y San Juan desarrollaron proyectos de servicio en sus escuelas y comunidades, apoyados por un guía de proyecto de Jóvenes de Puerto Rico en Riesgo, una de las organizaciones que la Fundación Liberty apoya desde hace tres años. Algunos estudiantes restauraron un huerto escolar, mientras que otros realizaron labores de limpieza en playas de sus comunidades. También organizaron un proyecto de reciclaje de libros, donándolos a una organización sin fines de lucro. ¡Estamos muy orgullosos de estos jóvenes comprometidos!
Cruz Roja Americana Capítulo de Puerto Rico
Support for video game tournament / Apoyo a torneo de videojuegos
In order to strengthen the work that they do in times of disaster and throughout the year, the Liberty Foundation sponsored the video game tournament of the Puerto Rico Chapter of the American Red Cross. “Red Mission” was the name of the event that allowed them to raise funds in a creative and innovative way in times of great challenges to organize fundraising events. The tournament was also supported by Liberty Communications, which provided the necessary equipment to have high-speed internet on the day of the final.
Con el objetivo de fortalecer la labor que realizan en momentos de desastre y durante todo el año, la Fundación Liberty auspició el torneo de videojuegos de la Cruz Roja Americana Capítulo de Puerto Rico. “Misión Roja” fue el nombre del evento que permitió que la organización recaudara fondos de forma creativa e innovadora en momentos de grandes retos para actividades de este tipo. El evento también contó con el apoyo de Liberty Communications, que proveyó el equipo necesario para contar con internet de alta velocidad el día de la final del torneo.

Theater and music in the summer/ Verano de teatro y música
The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands assigned part of the grant received from the Liberty Foundation to fund the “Summer Theater and Music Arts Camp” of the Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts. The four-week summer camp for 20 young people between the ages of 10-16 culminated in a closing presentation and included two sections. The first one was theater with the focus on social justice. The second section focused on Chekere making and African drumming, highlighting African Music as an instrument for personal and social change. Chekere is a West African percussion instrument. “Many parents and students reached out to me and indicated that their children loved the manner in which they were given a voice,” said camp leader Sayeeda Carter. This is one example of the important role that arts play in the lives of our children and youth.
La organización Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands asignó parte de la subvención recibida de la Fundación Liberty para financiar el “Campamento de Verano de Artes Musicales y Teatro” del Caribbean Museum Center for the Arts, en Saint Croix. El campamento de verano de cuatro semanas para 20 participantes de entre 10 y 16 años culminó con una presentación de clausura y se dividió en dos secciones. La primera ofreció talleres de teatro con énfasis en el tema de justicia social. La segunda sección se centró en la confección del “Chekere”, instrumento de percusión africana, destacando la música africana como medio para el cambio personal y social. “Muchos padres y estudiantes se acercaron a mí y me indicaron que a sus hijos les encantaba la forma en que se les daba una voz”, dijo la líder del campamento, Sayeeda Carter. Este es un ejemplo del papel importante que tienen las artes en la vida de nuestros niños y jóvenes.
